AUDITION CALL for KLPac’s Community Writing Project,

8 Ways to Lighten the School Bag

KLPac is launching its Community Writing Project with 8 Ways to Lighten the School Bag, to be directed by KLPac’s new Writer / Director-in-Residence, Mark Beau de Silva.

The Community Writing Project is a unique attempt at involving people from all walks of life in theatre-making. Those selected will attend workshops which will include improvisation exercises, sharing sessions, and other methods which will unconsciously uncover dialogue, characters, and scenes for the production.

A workshop performance will follow with participants acting as performers and crew-members. The whole process will end in a performance scheduled for 14 & 15 August and 25 & 26 September 2008.

AUDITION DETAILS

DATES:           Sat & Sun, 14 & 15 June 2008

TIME:             11am-1pm (must attend all 3 hours on the day)

VENUE:          Studio 6, KLPac

Who are we looking for?

As the subject matter of the first project involves the Malaysian education system, teachers, students, parents and basically anybody who has something to say about the state of our education system, are welcomed. Participants must be willing to spend about 4 hours a week on workshops which will tentatively commence at the end of June.

Mark Beau DeSilvaMark Beau de Silva is a playwright, actor and teacher. He has been writing plays since his teenage years and his play STORIES FOR AMAH (directed by Joe Hasham) was nominated for 5 awards at the Cameronian Arts Awards 2002. Since then, he has written plays for The Actors Studio and KLPAC, with the most recent ones being MY INDON
MAID and AH STEVE (both directed by Dato’ Faridah Merican), which was nominated for Best Original Script in the 2007 Cameronian Arts Awards. He is also an actor and has appeared in Georges Bizet’s CARMEN, Edward Dorall’s ANOTHER WRESTLING, Lim Chuang Yik and Teng Ky Gan’s BROKEN BRIDGES and TUNKU THE MUSICAL, and The Oral Stage’s
THE ILLUSION. He recently directed his latest play, PAPER HOUSE, and is pursuing his Masters in Performing Arts.
